It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the peak baggers, are all that remain for a side that has accomplished all there is.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to possess a record if never given the possibility.

Finally, the result of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to create her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her debut and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it was a challenging time because it appeared my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her great strength - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from there the right-hander was underway.

"A chance to go out there and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

When she was out the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the assurance to do that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if necessary, we know we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this tournament need to hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she later said she wished she had played through the pain.

But while she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have postponed thoughts of retirement, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as skipper.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
