The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
